Tom and Rob Yewdall spent four hours at Chirk today and secured seven fish between them to small dry flies, Tigers / Rainbow / Brook.

The 26th July 2010 proved very benificial to the participants , casting improvements all around and a number of Rainbow / Brook and Tiger Trout netted.
The 5th July 2010 saw seven eager participants wishing to learn / improve their casting and approach to flyfishing arrive at Chirk Fishery. Two hours later the beginner element were casting to a reasonable standard and the improvers , 'one double hauled a full line out' the other Snake rolls and Snap 'C' casts. After a very welcome light lunch they went on to catch between them 18 trout on dry flies, everyone was pleased and went away very happy.

Will Grey brought his dad Charles to Chirk for a four hour session today. In searing heat botrh fished well Charles doing rather better with three very nice rainbows. Here are a couple of pics.
Phil Osbiston fishing at Chirk today had this very nice Tiger Trout on a Mayfly Emerger.

Tom (80 years young) came all the way from Manchester to Chirk today, a treat from David his son, it wasn't long before Tom was in and amongst the trout with a small dry fly.

Chirk is still fishing well to dries, David came for a casting lesson today and after mastering the rudiments went on to catch a couple of lovely Rainbows on a small dry fly.... his first ever!

Six participants enjoyed the day at Chirk fishery and all were successful with a small dry olive, here are some pictures.
One of three for this young man 'Peter' aged 9 years, he becoame quite proficient towards the end, well done Peter!

Bryan never had a fly rod in his hand until today he ended up proficient in its use and caught a couple of rainbbows too!
Many fish came short to Martin's dry fly, but he managed this one.

IF TRAVELLING FROM THE WREXHAM DIRECTION ALONG THE A 483 THE DUAL CARRIAGEWAY BECOMES A SINGLE CARRIAGEWAY, SIGNPOSTED TOWARDS OSWESTRY, FOLLOW THIS ROAD UNTIL YOU COME TO THE FIRST ROUNDABOUT WHERE YOU TAKE THE THIRD EXIT, TRAVEL DOWNHILL UNTIL YOU COME TO THE MINI ROUNDABOUT, TAKE THE FIRST EXIT, TRAVEL THROGH CHIRK VILLAGE UNTIL YOU COME TO WHERE THE ROAD SURFACE HAS BEEN BRICKED, ALONG THER BRICKED AREA UNTIL AT THE VERY END, JUST PAST THE 'HSBC BANK' AND ON THE RIGHT, ON THE BEND, TAKE THE B4500 ROAD, ACROSS THE FIRST MINI ROUNDABOUT, AT THE SECOND MINI ROUNDABOUT TAKE THE FIRST EXIT, FOLLOW THE ROAD OUT OF THE VILLAGE APPROX 1 MILE, CHIRK FISHERY IS ON THE LEFT.

Dave,Darren and Simon had a four hour stint at Chirk today, glorious sunshine, warm and still, not great fishing weather. Dave had a nice Blue Trout and Darren a small Perch. Simon just practiced his casting!!

A young man, Andy Getliffe from the USA on holiday in the area joined me at Chirk today to learn to cast. Not only did he master the casting both the roll cast and the overhead cast with a shoot of line, on a size 20 dry fly he managed 6 Rainbow's, here's one of them, well done Andy !

Nick and Bill came to Chirk today and both had fish on small dries, Chironomids are hatching in style and the overwintered Rainbow's are having a bonanza, even in the chilly wind.

John and Chris spent the afternoon at Chirk Fishery. Having arrived and not fished with a fly before, they were quick to pick up on the roll cast and overhead cast before they were let loose on the fish. The fished well in competition with each other, ending up with three fish each on a dry fly. A pic of a Rainbow / Brook and Blue Trout for you. Well done the pair of you. (Chris did hook and loose one other fish) not sure if that counts.

Bitterly cold south easterly wind at Chirk today, made no difference the fish were up and taking dries, some great overwintered rainbows in pristine condition, 4 hours was enough though.

Newcomer Dave Oxendale into his first trout of the day on a size 20 shutlecock.
John McEwan with a nice Rainbow, one of four on the day, again on shutlecock patterns.

Where else do I know of that you can pick off fish with a Dry Fly in the middle of December?.... "Nowhere that I know of, not in this area anyway". Andy, Colin and John came to Chirk Fishery today and between them managed 16 fish on very small size 20 and smaller 'dry flies'and shuttlecock patterns, Chirk is fishing well. Some pics for you.

Team 'McQue' came for a four hour stint at Chirk today, never fly fished before. Father and Son in the care of Grandad. Soon 'Master' McQue was roll casting and putting in a decent overhead cast and dad was following on. It was not long before we were talking about the flies and methods. It ended up 7 - 0 to 'Master' McQue a keen spirited, polite and sensible young man, all 11 years of him. Every picture paints a story. Grandad was very busy with the net.

Today five total beginners, Lance,Gregg,David,Pete and Jan spent the day at Chirk Fishery. After the safety brief the rudiments of the Roll Cast and the Overhead cast and a little practice it left them ready for the real thing after lunch. They certainly took to it well and ended up with eight fish between them all on Mayfly Emergers. The weather also stayed kind to us. Here are some of the fish.

Chirk fishing well to small dries, stole half an hour of time today after lunch and took three Rainbow's in pristine condition on a size 22 shutlecock.
Edward enjoyed his day at Chirk Fishery today the 8th April and caught three nice overwintered Rainbows, this was kept for the pot.

The overwintered fish at Chirk Fishery are resonding well to small shuttlecock patterns, Sam from Pravda Advertising on an induction day with his first Trout on a Fly.

Duckflies (Chironomids) even in the worst of weather keep hatching and the overwintered fish are having a bonanza...they are difficult mind, worth a visit 100% size 24 shuttlecock.

Anthony Powell came for a day's tuition and and guiding, he caught four overwintered rainbow's in pristine condition on a size 24 shuttlecock, he hooked and lost another six fish to the same fly, awsome fishing.
All the way from Barbados to Chirk Fishery, this naturally gifted young lady caught this 'Rainbow' on a size 22 shuttlecock.
